Red Deer is set to benefit from a massive upgrade in digital infrastructure as TELUS and F3 Networks announce the rollout of TELUS PureFibre services to 90% of homes in the city.
This transformation is made possible by a historic USD 168 million investment by F3 Networks, marking a pivotal step in TELUS’s ongoing mission to extend Canada’s fastest and most reliable internet technology to more communities, residents, and businesses.
Currently, over 1 million homes and businesses across Alberta already enjoy access to TELUS PureFibre, including more than 120,000 in rural areas. Soon, Red Deer residents will be able to experience the same future-ready speeds, exceptional reliability, and transformative digital capabilities.
In the coming weeks, residents and businesses will begin seeing construction notices and updates from F3 Networks, the owner of the fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) network, and AFL, the main construction contractor.
Upon project completion, TELUS will work directly with newly connected residents and businesses to help them choose from a suite of services including PureFibre Gigabit internet, Optik TV, Smart Home Security, and other advanced solutions.
Shazia Zeb Sobani, VP of Customer Solutions Delivery West at TELUS, said:
“This collaborative effort is about more than building infrastructure; it’s about empowering residents and businesses with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital world. TELUS PureFibre services will support critical, transformational change in the region, unlocking new opportunities for connection, innovation, and growth.”
Proud to bring fiber connectivity to the City of Red Deer, Jordan Young, President and CEO of F3 Networks, commented:
“Over the next two years, this fiber optic network will transform how residents and businesses connect, communicate, and thrive. This isn’t just about faster internet; it’s about unlocking new opportunities in education, healthcare, commerce, and everyday life. We’re committed to laying the groundwork for a more connected, inclusive, and innovative future, and we’re honored to do it in partnership with the people who call this community home.”
This initiative includes more than 400,000 meters of fiber construction and is being realized with strong support and leadership from the City of Red Deer.
Unlike traditional copper infrastructure, a fully FTTP network enables symmetrical upload and download speeds, ideal for video conferencing, remote work, online learning, and telehealth. It also supports local businesses and content creators by enabling high-performance digital capabilities and leveling the competitive field.
The new fiber infrastructure will also form the backbone of TELUS’s world-class 5G network, reinforcing Red Deer’s readiness to participate in the digital economy.
Notably, TELUS PureFibre is 85% more energy efficient than copper and is designed to be more resilient against extreme weather, making it not only faster and more reliable, but also more sustainable.
